What started in 2013 as an idea for a documentary on engaged people in the research area (Nigeria, Chad, Cameroon, CAR, Congo DRC, Mali and Uganda) of the Connecting in Times of Duress team (Leiden University), grew to a fully independent project “Voice4Thought”. This project was launched on November 27, 2014 and resulted in the founding of the Voice4Thought Foundation on April 29, 2016.

Our world keeps getting smaller whilst opposing views between social, ethic, and religious groups become starker and bring with them fear and uncertainty. As a foundation we want to be a halmark for the production of alternative knowledge concerning current pressing social and political issues to get to a more nuanced public dialogue possible. This new knowledge is produced by people which make us think critically, a Voice for Thought. These voices want to be heard in this strongly polarised and morally unstable world. We offer a platform for people that bring an alternative story. They move heaven and earth to bring about constructive and peaceful change.

The access and further development of these kinds of alternative knowledge will be disseminated to the public through movie nights, debates, the website and our yearly festival.
