The Brazilian iconic delicacy Brigadeiro is a crossover between fudge and chocolate truffle – We introduce them now in the Netherlands under the name Sweet Bob. In the run up to the opening of our Sweet Bob Lab, we will attend many Amsterdam Food Festivals. Starting with the Amsterdam Food Festival from 24 to 28 of March in the RAI.

Brigadeiros were first created in the 40s of the last century. At that time the access to most imported products, such as nuts and European fruit, was limited. People needed to be creative with just a few ingredients. Some ladies in Rio de Janeiro then created delights of cocoa and condensed milk and the famous Brazilian delicacy was born.

In 1946, women in Brazil were allowed to vote for the first time and the women supported presidential candidate Brigadeiro Eduardo Gomes massively, partly by making and selling Brigadeiro’s to finance his campaign. Gomes did not become president, but the Brigadeiro did become part of the Brazilian culture. Meanwhile Brigadeiro is the most famous and popular delicacy for over 200 million Brazilians and is eaten during all celebrations, from weddings and birthdays to ‘gezellig’ socializing with friends.
