What Design Can Do is an event where the power of design and its problem solving ability are celebrated. Design as a catalyst of change and renewal. Design as a method of addressing the societal questions of our time.

Design can be a rather hollow concept. Design is too often related to that which is beautiful, trendy, fun or different. But design is much more than this. Design can change, improve, renew, involve, shock, move, disrupt, help or solve.

What Design Can Do is about the contemporary potential of design. Crossing all disciplines, What Design Can Do is a platform for the presentation of alternative strategies for the future. What Design Can Do is a conference for design professionals, companies and governments.

What Design Can Do demonstrates and questions the impact of design. What Design Can Do is an activist conference; together with national and international top-speakers, we ask questions and formulate answers.
What Design Can Do will result in the presentation of a book and website consisting of the most important conclusions and recommendations.
What Design Can Do is an event in Amsterdam with speakers (and audience!) from the Netherlands and abroad.

The program structure of What Design Can Do is designed to give the conference its ‘activist’ character. The main program will lead to a side program including discussions, workshops and brainstorms, generating an exhibition of ideas, resulting in a book, used in a publicity stunt that will show the world What Design Can Do!

The two-day program is divided into different sections, each focussing on a specific theme. Speakers in these sections will be from all kinds of backgrounds and working in different disciplines as we are firm believers in cross breeding.
This year we will look into topics like: publishing, education, research, food, branding and the screen.

After the lunch break we invite all participants to join us in one of the breakout sessions for some (inter)action.
